Hide Beetle

Scientific Name: Dermestes maculatus

The Hide Beetle, Dermestes maculatus, is also known as the leather or skin beetle.
As the name suggests, this beetle consumes things such as meat and fish and lays their larvae inside. The females can lay between 200 and 900 eggs in a lifetime. The beetles are 5 -12 mm in length and have hairs all over their body.

The Hide Beetle is common in domestic kitchens as well as factories and supermarkets. They may also be found in taxidermist facility, factories of dry milk, food processing and storage plants, poultry & meat packaging plants, fish markets.
