Granary Weevil/Grain Weevil/Wheat Weevil

Scientific Name: {Sitophilus granarius}
The Granary Weevil is also known as the Grain or Wheat weevil. It’s larvae are able to chew through packages and infest grains quickly as the female lays eggs up to around 250 times. It is reddish brown to black in color and 2-3 mm in length. Unlike several other weevils, it is not able to fly. Combined with the fact it’s larvae are legless, this insect depends upon nature and man for its’ distribution in the cooler, northern states. It does not like the warmer temps found in the southern states.
